Believe it or not, this picture was taken upstairs at the Old Bell pub in Fleet Street in 1994 after a memorial service for former deputy night editor Bob Cocksworth. And the woman wearing the fez is Bob's widow, Linda.
In fact it was Linda's suggestion that we swap hats, so I ended up wearing her black creation and she took my fez, which she had specifically asked that I wear at the memorial. I was happy to oblige.
It was what Bobby would have wanted.
Probably.
Pictured from left are Saul Cocksworth, Bob Smith, Keith Ging, Linda Cocksworth, Pat Wooding and a plumptious Alastair McIntyre. He still has the suit.
